Freshmen contributions

This is about more than just Romeo Langford. Even though the five-star guard from New Albany is clearly the highest-rated newcomer (No. 7) joining the team this season, he is far from alone. In fact, head coach Archie Miller is bringing in more than just one elite recruit heading into this season. As already mentioned, Robert Phinisee (No. 134) will bring stability to the point guard position and Damezi Anderson (No. 123) can stretch the floor tremendously. Both of these players should fill valuable roles.

Furthermore, though, three other freshmen will play valuable roles right away. Leading off this group could be Race Thompson, a top-150 recruit from the 2017 class who redshirted last season. A 6-foot-8 versatile wing, Thompson should provide depth to the frontcourt of the roster. He is highly athletic and can function at either forward position.

In regards to the true freshman, both Jerome Hunter and Jake Forrester could also find minutes within the Indiana basketball rotation. Considering the arrival of Langford on campus heading into this season, Hunter has flown under-the-radar as the No. 58 recruit in the country. Then, Forrester comes in as the lowest-rated recruit (No. 146) but still brings plenty of size as 6-foot-8 and skill overall.

If all goes according to plan for the Hoosiers this season, an NCAA Tournament bid may be in store. Head coach Archie Miller has compiled a strong overall roster with plenty of potential for success. If the youngsters are able to gel together with the experienced members of the team, then a big season could be ahead.
