8. Towson Tigers

2017-18 season record: 18-14 (8-10 CAA)

Towson actually managed to finish with a winning record last season, but that success may be shortlived.

Their best player from a year ago was Zane Martin. He averaged 19.8 points per game, shooting 38% from 3-point range and becoming one of the most lethal scorers in the CAA. Then he transferred to New Mexico.

Guard Mike Morsell is also gone, having graduated after averaging double-digit scoring in his last three seasons at Towson. In other words, the cupboard is looking awfully bare for the Tigers.

The team’s top six scorers from a year ago are gone. The top returning scorer is redshirt senior Jordan McNeil, who averaged 4.7 points per game last year; that doesn’t feel like the recipe for a season of contention in the conference.

Unsurprisingly, the team skews young, with four true freshmen expected to make the roster. That could make the Tigers dangerous in a couple of years, but they’re due to experience plenty of growing pains in 2018-19.

Pat Skerry has been the head coach since 2011, so he’s seen both good and bad times. The Tigers won ONE game during his first season – total. So Skerry will be okay when the team suffers their first losing season since 2014-15.
