Big 12 Basketball: Preseason Player of the Year candidates for 2018-19
By Chris Kern
Barry Brown
The final candidate for Big 12 Player Of The Year is Kansas State point guard Barry Brown. He averaged 15.9 points, 3.2 assists and 3.1 rebounds per game. His three-point percentage is a little low for an elite guard like himself as he’s just a 33% shooter from deep in his first three seasons.
His free throw percentage made a big jump between his sophomore and junior seasons. He improved it from 62% his sophomore year up to 77% last season. He was more aggressive and took way more shots from the line as well, improving to five free-throw attempts after shooting a little bit more than three free-throws per game his sophomore year.
Brown isn’t even the top candidate on his team though. As mentioned earlier, star big Dean Wade is the better candidate for the Wildcats. Wade is probably the best candidate not on the Kansas Jayhawks.
Barry Brown might only be a dark-horse candidate but he is still going to have a huge year. The national media saw what he was made of in the NCAA tournament last season. He is ready to do even more this season. The Wildcats are gonna have a big year, and Brown is gonna be a big reason why.
