Duke Basketball: 5 keys for a successful 2018-19 season
Scoring hierarchy emerges
Considering the youth on this team, it is reasonable to expect that there may be some early hurdles to leap over in regards to role assignments. This is especially true when discussing who will be the top offensive options this season. With so many talented scorers on the roster, developing a scoring hierarchy of who the offense revolves around will be vital to success.
In three preseason games in Canada during August, both RJ Barrett and Zion Williamson flashed their ridiculous offensive games. These two clearly project as scoring leaders on the team this season but they will definitely command their fair share of possessions. However, they are not alone in terms of potentially elite scorers on the roster. Cam Reddish, the No. 2 recruit in the 2018 class, is also joining the team this year even though he did not compete on the preseason tour.
With these three players all on the court at the same time, Coach K and Co. will need to create a scoring hierarchy. As already mentioned, point guard Tre Jones will play a vital role in helping the offense grow and flow together but he cannot do it alone. All three of these scorers bring a little something different to the offense and it will be extremely exciting to watch the Blue Devils this season if they are able to gel perfectly together.
