St. John’s Red Storm

Biggest Need: 3-point shooting

St. John’s might be the most interesting program in the Big East heading into this upcoming season. After substantial roster improvement due to transfer additions and returning talent, the Red Storm could be poised for a major jump up the conference rankings this year. Yet, there are still plenty of questions regarding just how successful the team might be.

St. John’s has struggled immensely during the three-year reign of head coach Chris Mullin to this point and many have started to wonder if he is the right man for the job. Yet, this is clearly his most talented team on paper to this point and the future of the program could depend on this season. Because of this, it is difficult to determine the most important recruiting needs of the team.

However, based on the statistics of this past season, it is reasonable to think that 3-point shooting could be an area for improvement. The Red Storm shot just 32.9% from beyond the arc a year ago (290th nationally) and will need to improve in this facet of the game in order for the team to reach its full potential.

Coach Mullin is yet to land a 2019 commitment but a strong year from the team could improve the odds of landing a top recruit or two. St. John’s is only losing one key player to graduation this season but it is a big one. Replacing Marvin Clark will not be easy but it is a necessity.
