Georgia Basketball: 2018-19 season preview for the Bulldogs
Overview for Georgia this upcoming season
Head coach Tom Crean re-enters the coaching ranks after a strong stint in the Big Ten previously. He’ll have his work cut out for him, though, with the Georgia Bulldogs in the SEC. Eight of 14 teams in the SEC made the NCAA Tournament and the Bulldogs weren’t one of them. Given the current landscape across the conference, it could be a few more seasons before Georgia cracks into the Top 5 of the conference.
Their newcomers could see some early playing time as a result, too. Combo guard Ignas Sarguinas has some experience on the European circuit playing with Zalgris II back in Lithuania. He averaged 10.3 points and 2.7 assists per game but shot just 25.3 percent from 3-point land in NKL play. He’ll have a learning curve to learn with the Georgia Bulldogs but don’t be surprised if he’s a starter by season’s end.
The Bulldogs could see some growing pains in Year 1 considering Crean’s style of play. They were close to the bottom of the conference last season in 3-point shooting as a team and considering most of their production is back, that’s not likely to change. They’ll play some competitive teams in non-conference play which should help figure out the rotation in the early going, but don’t expect too much from this year’s Bulldogs squad.
