This non-conference schedule doesn’t have any huge games against top teams, but it does contain a number of contests that will test Wichita State early. That starts right off the bat with a Providence program that has reached the NCAA Tournament in five straight seasons and is also re-tooling their roster.

Wichita’s biggest tests figure to come in the Charleston Classic. The Shockers will open against a Davidson team that is one of the favorites in the A-10 before potentially facing Purdue and National Player of the Year candidate Carsen Edwards. Alabama, Ball State, Northeastern, and Virginia Tech are on the other side of the bracket.

The Shockers will then kick off December against a pair of Big 12 teams in Baylor and Oklahoma. We don’t know how good the Sooners will be without Trae Young (probably not very good), but Baylor is expected to have a bounce-back year after missing the NCAA Tournament a year ago.

Finally, Wichita State will close their non-conference schedule with the only true road game of the slate against VCU in a matchup between two great mid-major programs.
