Big 12 Basketball: What is the ceiling for each program for 2018-19?
By Chris Kern
TCU Horned Frogs
The TCU Horned Frogs made the NCAA tournament as a 6th seed last year. They did lose in the first round though, to 11th seeded Syracuse.
They do return a lot from last years team but they do lose the two leading scorers. Vladimir Brodziansky and Kenrich Williams are both big losses.
Senior’s Alex Robinson and JD Miller will be asked to lead this team as they play larger roles in the offense than they did a year ago.
Having Jaylen Fisher healthy for this team would be big this season. He is a talented point guard who is a difference maker when he’s on the floor. He averaged 12.3 points and 5.4 assists per game in just 17 games last year.
Fisher’s health is key to how good this team can be. Last year they should they could get into the tournament easily. They needed Fisher in that game against Syracuse and they’ll need him, even more, this season.
It is a little bit worrisome that they don’t have much depth inside. They will play a lot of small ball lineups. They still need a couple of interior guys they can trust.
They will rely on junior college transfer Yuat Alok to play a large role inside. He was one of the top junior college prospects in the whole nation so he’ll be ready to play.
This TCU team has a lot of talent. They’re very capable of making another NCAA tournament. If Jaylen Fisher is healthy and everything goes right this team will be a 7 or 8 seed with the potential to win a couple of games and advance to the second weekend.
