Key reserves

The Wake Forest Demon Deacons have a lot of question marks but there are plenty of players on the roster with the potential to fill in the blanks. Freshman Jamie Lewis will need to fill the void at the backup point guard role. He was listed as a 6-foot-3 combo guard coming out of high school but missed his senior season due to injury.

6-foot-10 forward Ikenna Smart is set to play a reserve role in the frontcourt. The graduate transfer from the Buffalo Bulls started in 25 games in 2017-18, averaging 3.6 points, 3.5 rebounds per game. Buffalo won the 2018 MAC Tournament Championship and upset the Arizona Wildcats in last year’s NCAA Tournament.

There isn’t much depth for the Wake Forest Demon Deacons in the frontcourt outside of Smart, though. They have 6-foot-8 forward Sunday Okeke, but he didn’t produce much in 21 appearances last year. That could mean Jaylen Hoard could find himself playing some center at times during his freshman season.

The Demon Deacons have some other versatile options in the backcourt in Melo Eggleston and guards Sharone Wright Jr. and Michael Wynn. Eggleston is an untested 6-foot-8 forward that appeared in just 21 games for 5.0 minutes of action on average last season as a freshman.

Wright and Wynn are both freshmen but bring versatility of their own. Wright is a 6-foot-5 guard that can play either guard position. Wynn is a 6-foot-6 guard that was originally committed to East Carolina. He’s a versatile scorer that can play either wing position and also an underrated ballhandler.
