Overview for Wake Forest this upcoming season

Head coach Danny Manning is going to have another interesting season in 2018-19. He’ll have just one player with starting experience on the roster for the upcoming year. In short, the Wake Forest Demon Deacons will be a young and inexperienced squad, but their incoming class of recruits could fill the void.

The Demon Deacons have two guys with tremendous upside in Jaylen Hoard and Isaiah Mucius. Hoard has versatility and athleticism for his size at 6-foot-8, giving him a solid future as a quality NBA draft prospect. A native of France, he’s also got experience on the FIBA circuit with their national team.

Mucius is another versatile 6-foot-8 forward with the ability to handle the ball and play the wing. He won NEPSAC Class AAA Player of the Year honors last season at Brewster Academy, averaging 14.2 points and 4.3 rebounds per game. Freshmen Jamie Lewis and Sharone Wright Jr. are two other names to keep an eye on. If they can build some chemistry with the current roster, things may not go all that bad this upcoming season.

The Wake Forest Demon Deacons finishing in the bottom half of the ACC for another season could hurt Manning’s status as head coach beyond the 2018-19 season. The formula is there for a decent finish but too many moving parts could have them a year off a successful season of college basketball.
