Mississippi State Basketball: 2018-19 season preview for the Bulldogs
Overview for Mississippi State this upcoming season
Anything short of an NCAA Tournament berth would be underachieving for this year’s Mississippi State Bulldogs squad. They were a formidable opponent in last year’s NIT but they’ve got bigger goals on their mind in 2018-19.
Head coach Ben Howland had his best season in 2017-18 and things seem to be looking up after securing a strong 2018 recruiting class for the future. Mississippi State hasn’t made the tournament since the 2008-09 season but things are looking up. They won 25 games, the most since 2011-12 this past season.
It was also a season where they won the most SEC games. The rebuild seems to be turning a corner for Coach Howland, now they’ll really need to turn heads on the court and in the SEC with the results.
Their starting rotation is stacked and their bench shouldn’t be too shabby, either. The Weatherspoon brothers and Lamar Peters should carry them but they’ll need to improve their outside shooting if they really hope to make strides, especially in conference play. Look for the Bulldogs to make it past the first weekend as an NCAA Tournament and for a Top 5 finish in league play before it’s all over with.
