South Carolina Basketball: 2018-19 season preview for the Gamecocks
By Brian Rauf
Key reserves
Jermaine Couisnard
Couisnard’s playing status is still up in the air due to an academic issue they’re trying to work out, but he’ll have a big impact for the Gamecocks whenever he takes the court. He’s a knockdown shooter who will earn plenty of minutes off the bench in that role. But his staying power in the rotation will depend on his improvement defensively.
Evan Hinson
A tight end on South Carolina’s football team, Hinson is a two-sport star who excels as a bruising 6-4 forward with a soft scoring touch. He’ll play a solid role for this team’s frontcourt once football season ends.
Tre Campbell
Campbell is a grad transfer from Georgetown who is the opposite of Couisnard. He really struggles to score having shot just 34.7 percent from the floor in his career but is a good defender and reliable playmaker. Campbell will serve well as Gravett’s backup.
Keyshawn Bryant
Bryant is extremely raw but, at 6-6 with freakish athleticism, the potential is there for him to become a star. Those gifts give up tremendous upside defensively, where he can switch anywhere on the perimeter. He’ll look to provide energy in spurts off the bench.
T.J. Moss
Moss is a freshman combo guard who will earn a little bit of playing time because of his ability to attack the basket off the bounce. A gifted playmaker at the high school level, Moss could earn more playing time as the season wears on as he adjusts to the college game.
Felipe Haase
Haase played in every game during his freshman season but was very inconsistent. He’s not very mobile, which will limit his playing time against more athletic teams, but will have a role in SC’s big man rotation because of his size.
