Pac-12 Basketball: Each team’s worst performance of the last decade

Oregon State hasn’t been very solid the last few decades, this we know. I’m still baffled at how they managed a 7-seed in the 2016 NCAA Tournament and their performance there proved they were very over-seeded. However, let’s not focus on the good; let’s remember all of the bad times for the Beavers, and these games were plentiful under Craig Robinson.
Before we dive into the albatross on top of the page, there are two other horrible ones to look at. This Oregon State team put up just 45 points against a terrible Howard squad in Robinson’s first game as head coach in 2008, dropping a game to a team that would lose their next 14 games. As a contrast, the first game of Robinson’s final season in Corvallis was a terrible home loss to Coppin State, a 5-point loss to a rough MEAC squad. Yet, neither was close to what happened independent Seattle visited town.
It’s almost unfathomable what happened on this cold January day in Corvallis. Most of the first half was a consistent back and forth effort, with neither team leading by more than a possession, until Oregon State led 21-18 with eight minutes left in the half. Thirteen minutes later, it was 60-29 Seattle (a remarkable 42-8 run). Five Redhawks were in double figures and there wasn’t a single Beaver with more than 9 points. The stats were as bad as you’d expect; 20 turnovers for Oregon State, 31% shooting, 31% on free throws (6-19 is unacceptable!) and completely outworked on both ends.
Seattle rejoined Division I basketball in 2008 and less than two years in they were eviscerating a Pac-10 team. The sheer deficit and Game Score are incredible, and this was truly the bottom falling out for the Beavers. As was mentioned earlier, this team did make the Tourney a few years ago, but Gary Payton II is not coming through those doors and the good, the bad, and especially the ugly beckons for Oregon State.
