Big Ten Basketball: Best / Worst case scenarios for each team in 2018-19
By Adam Childs
Michigan
Best Case
Charles Matthews picks up right where he left off in the NCAA tournament and becomes the Wolverines number one scorer. Zavier Simpson continues to be a defensive force and improves his free throw shooting. Jordan Poole becomes the secondary scorer that he has the potential to be and John Teske makes Wolverine fans forget about Moe Wagner. Michigan wins their third straight Big Ten Tournament title and carries that into the NCAA tournament. They finally break through and win the National Championship giving John Beilein the one thing he is missing in his coaching career.
Worst Case:
The Wolverines miss the leadership and scoring for Moe Wagner and Matthews goes back to his old ways of turning the ball over and taking bad shots. Simpson continues to be a free throw liability and the young guys do not progress the way many think they will. They get blown out by North Carolina and Villanova in the early part of the season and it carries over into conference play. Nebraska, Indiana, and Wisconsin pass them up and they finish in the middle of the Big Ten. After an early exit in the Big Ten tournament, they barely make it into the NCAA tournament as a 10 seed and lose in the first round.
