Overview for Ole Miss this upcoming season

The Ole Miss Rebels should have an interesting year in SEC play this season. After going 5-13 in 2017-18, they’ve gone a different direction with head coach Kermit Davis. They’ll need some newcomers in step up in 2018-19 or it could be another tough season in-conference.

They’ll have offense back in guard Terence Davis, but they won’t have much experience returning to last on both ends. Given those odds, newcomers like freshman Blake Hinson and junior college transfer Brian Halums will have to contribute right away for this team to get over the hump. Even then, they may not have enough depth in the frontcourt to keep pace.

Don’t expect the Rebels to finish at the top of the pack in the SEC for a season or two. It’s been an interesting turnaround for a squad that was 10-8 in conference play under head coach Andy Kennedy in 2016-17. Lack of appearances in the NCAA Tournament with Kennedy led to some tension with the Ole Miss administration.

They’ll see what Kermit Davis can do after leading Middle Tennessee to two appearances in the last three seasons. The SEC is a lot tougher than the Conference USA though, so expect some growing pains.
