Coach of the Year

Eric Musselman | Nevada | 81-29 (.736) record

Eric Musselman might just be entering his fourth season as the Nevada basketball head coach but he has quickly turned the program into a national title contender. The Wolf Pack impressed many over the course of last season and with his trio of Caleb Martin, Cody Martin, and Jordan Caroline returning for this year, it is easy to see why the team is ranked in the preseason top-10. Oh, and it doesn’t hurt that Coach Musselman is also bringing some elite newcomers this year.

If Nevada performs as expected this season, it would be hard to imagine a situation in which Musselman is not at least in the discussion for National Coach of the Year. Not only is he a tremendous motivator and in-game coach but he also deserves a ton of credit for how quickly he has built a dynamic and talented roster in Reno. Roster construction and development is paramount to success in college basketball and the way Coach Musselman has transformed the Nevada basketball program so quickly is truly remarkable.

He has dominated the transfer market since taking over at Nevada and also does a tremendous job managing rotations. Now, though, after landing Jordan Brown (No. 19 overall 2018 recruit), it seems as though Coach Musselman might start excelling on the recruiting trail and that is what could make Nevada a perennial top-25 team.
