Which teams are on the preseason bubble?

Is it really fair to project teams that will miss the NCAA Tournament prior to the season even starts? Probably not. But still, this entire exercise is based around preseason projections for each team so even sitting just on the outside looking in might be a good sign of things that might come in the future. Will any of these teams outperform my projections and go dancing? Most likely but who those teams will be remains to be seen. This season is bound to be exciting one and following the bubble is always a nerve-wracking and exciting thing to do.

Here is a look at a few of the teams, not all, that just missed out on making this projected field (in alphabetical order): Arizona, Arizona State, Arkansas, BYU, Colorado, Georgetown, Maryland, Memphis, Missouri, New Mexico, Notre Dame, San Diego State, Texas A&M, UConn, Utah, Vanderbilt, and Western Kentucky.

As a final breakdown, these were the teams that were awarded the automatic bids from each one-bid conference (in alphabetical order by conference): Vermont (America East), Lipscomb (Atlantic Sun), Montana (Big Sky), Radford (Big South), UC-Irvine (Big West), Northeastern (CAA), Marshall (CUSA), Wright State (Horizon), Harvard (Ivy), Rider (MAAC), Buffalo (MAC), NC Central (MEAC), Loyola-Chicago (MVC), Nevada (MWC), St. Francis-PA (NEC), Belmont (OVC), Lehigh (Patriot), UNC-Greensboro (SoCon), Stephen F. Austin (Southland), Texas Southern (SWAC), South Dakota State (Summit), Georgia State (Sun Belt), and New Mexico State (WAC).

By the time March rolls along, this preseason field will likely look pretty silly. Yet, it is always a fun exercise to determine which teams seem to be in the best shape heading into the year. This should be a great season full of highly-competitive basketball games so settle in and buckle your seatbelt.
