Louisville

The Cardinals are clearly no stranger to controversy. Even the most casual of college basketball fans will remember the scandals of Rick Pitino and his assistant coach, Andre McGee. It’s no exaggeration to say that the multiple NCAA violations rocked the college basketball landscape at the time, even resulting in Louisville having to vacate their 2013 National Championship.

Sorry, Peyton Siva and Gorgui Dieng. We’ll always have the memories? However, unfortunately for the Cardinals, the funny business did not stop there. Brian Bowen Jr. and his father were at the center of the recent Adidas trials, and now new coach Chris Mack will have to deal with the consequences of his predecessor.

In this case, it’s definitely a question of when, not if the Cardinals will receive a heap of punishment. In Chris Mack though, the Cardinals have a fresh leader in the new dawn of Louisville basketball. There will be skeletons in the closet from the past, but my hunch is Mack brings this program back to national prominence within a couple of years. This year, though, they will be stuck fighting to stay afloat in the middle of the ACC standings. Through it all, Rick Pitino will still be wearing his tracksuits.
