Creighton Bluejays

Expectations were not high for Creighton basketball heading into this season. After departures of Marcus Foster and Khyri Thomas this offseason, the Bluejays were projected to finish near the bottom of the Big East. Yet, Creighton currently stands at 5-1 with a few strong wins already on the resume. And what has been so exciting about this start is that the top four scorers for the team have been underclassmen and they should only get better as the year goes on.

Most notably, sophomore Ty-Shon Alexander is leading the team with 19.2 points per game. Then Damien Jefferson, Mitchell Ballock, and Marcus Zegarowski follow after him as double-digit scorers. If Martin Krampelj is able to return to his former self then this team has the potential to be much dangerous than expected.

Over the course of this past week, Creighton dominated at the Cayman Islands Classic. After taking care of business against potentially strong opponents in Boise State and Georgia State, the team rounded out the event with a superb win over nationally-ranked Clemson. The Bluejays have been a pleasant surprise in the Big East so far and it will be interesting to see how they grow throughout the year.
