NCAA Basketball: An undefeated Gonzaga, Nassir Little, and more takeaways

7) Furman deserves to be ranked
Many people, myself included, thought Furman deserved to be ranked after they beat Villanova on the road last weekend. They did receive 50 votes for the top 25 but were fifth in the “others receiving votes” category – one spot behind the Wildcats they had just beaten.
All Furman has done since then is beat Southern Wesleyan and that’s clearly not the kind of victory that warrants a move up the standings. However, they’re more deserving than a lot of the teams ahead of them.
Clemson, the No. 16 team in the country, lost to Creighton this week. TCU, No. 18, lost to Lipscomb. Nebraska got smacked by Texas Tech. And we’ve already been over UCLA.
Even other teams like Wisconsin, Maryland, Oregon can’t match Furman’s resume when it comes to quality wins. It would be nice to see those actual on-court results be rewarded rather than them being behind other teams with bad losses or no good wins on their resume.
If you’re an AP voter, do the right thing this week and put Furman in your top 25.
