Like the 3, Love the Rim

In the current era of College Basketball, it is trendy to get the ball in transition, make one pass and let it fly. Teams are shooting more and more threes. Villanova the last national champion loved the three-point line and they made a lot of them, this proves that teams can win utilizing this model. Coaches love this philosophy because if teams can make their three’s a slim lead could balloon to double digits quickly.

Coach Miles wants this Nebraska team to shoot threes, he also wants them to get to the rim. In their first three games and especially in the game against Big East foe Seton Hall. Nebraska was taking good threes, the shots you get after three or four passes. The good ones are the ones that are wide open and in the hands of the knockdown shooter. The problem that Nebraska has is occasionally they fall in love with shooting beyond the arc. In the case of the game against Texas Tech, this shot them out of the game.

Coach Miles has been stressing the ability to take the best shot and be aggressive while still being able to shoot threes. Being aggressive should be the point of emphasis for this team all year. Their star player James Palmer Jr. thrives on aggressively going to the basket and getting fouled. He is a great free throw shooter. When he is going well, he will live at the free throw line. Nebraska needs to get to the rim against Clemson and against everyone they play all year. If they do that and move the ball, their threes will come.

Letting Nebraska get open looks and get into the paint has proven the recipe for success for Coach Miles team. Any time your team is averaging over 80 points a game you could blow one wide open. Improved shot selection and the ability to get to the free throw line will be the key for Nebraska in coming back to Lincoln with a crucial resume-building victory.
