Best Performance, Team – Lipscomb Bisons

After starting their Texas road trip off last week with a 79-73 win at SMU, the Bisons went into Fort Worth and took down No. 18 TCU on the road 73-64 last Tuesday.

The win was Lipscomb’s first in 14 tries against ranked opponents in the Division I era for the program.

The Bisons were led by senior Garrison Mathews who notched 23 points (on 7-14 shooting) and grabbed five boards. He also helped hold TCU’s second-leading scorer Desmond Bane (15.8 ppg) to a season-low four points.

Junior point guard Kenny Cooper (17 points, four rebounds, four assists, and two steals) filled up the stat sheet for Lipscomb, who entered halftime down 30-29.

The Bisons then outscored the Horned Frogs by 10 in the second half, led by senior big man Rob Marberry’s 13 points, three rebounds, three assists, and two blocks. Marberry also became the third player on the current Lipscomb roster to join the 1,000 point club in the win, joining Mathews and fifth-year senior guard Nate Moran.

Fresh off of the program’s first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance last season, Lipscomb seems primed for a return trip with a veteran-heavy roster and plenty of scoring options to throw at opponents.
