Jordan Bohannon’s stifling on-ball defense

Jordan Bohannon has been struggling shooting the ball in junior season, but he has not let that effect him on the defensive side of the ball.

Bohannon was tasked with guarding Panther star guard A.J. Green for a majority of Saturday night. Green is only a freshman, but has had a tremendous impact for the Panthers averaging 14.4 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 1.5 assists.

Green’s night did not go as expected as Bohannon played great on-ball defense on him. Bohannon was able to fight over screens and stay in front of him the whole game. He held Green to two points and one of eight shooting from the field.

Bohannon’s stifling on-ball defense was able to take the Panther’s out of the game early helping the Hawkeyes blow them out. It is also beneficial to see Bohannon playing stifling perimeter defense because the Hawkeyes defense has a been a problem all year.

According to kenpom the Hawkeyes rank 89th on defense. Their perimeter defense however has been stout as they rank 29th, but the interior defense is ranked 232nd. Their interior defense could be a major problem as they head into a long stretch of Big Ten play.
