Big East Basketball: Markus Howard, Myles Powell lead Conference POY rankings

5. Ty-Shon Alexander – Creighton
Creighton enters Big East play reeling. The Blue Jays started the season hot with some tremendous wins. They beat Clemson and gave Gonzaga all they could handle. In the rivalry game against Nebraska it appeared the wheels may have fallen off a bit for Creighton as they were ran out of the gym by their rivals in Lincoln. Creighton and head coach Greg McDermott lost a ton of scoring from last years’ team. Alexander enters his second year in Omaha and has taken a much-needed step forward for the Blue Jays.
One thing that will never change for Creighton is the way Coach McDermott likes to coach his team. The Blue Jays have a let it fly mentality. They love to get shots up quickly in the shot clock, and those shots are usually three-point baskets. Every player on the floor for Creighton will shoot three’s and those shots usually go through the rim. Alexander is one of the best shooters on the team. He is so much more than a three-point shooter. The sophomore guard is the catalyst for the Creighton offense.
The guard is in the midst of a breakout season, and his arrival on the scene came in a huge win against Clemson in the Cayman Islands. Alexander can carry the team offensively when his making threes. He is also very good at getting into the paint. The sophomore leads the team in Free Throw’s attempted, shots attempted and makes, he also shoots 45% from the three-point line. Alexander finds himself on this list because of his ability to fill up a stat sheet. The one ability that sets him apart from some other players in the conference is the fact the guard may have multiple games of 30 plus points. He is exciting to watch and can score points quickly with his ability to shoot it. He will be a problem for many Big East teams this season. Creighton will go as far as Alexander takes them.
