Southland: Shannon Bogues, Stephen F. Austin

The SFA Lumberjacks are the favorite to win the Southland this year. They’ve pulled off a few solid wins in non-conference play, and could have the potential to pull off an upset in the NCAA Tournament this March.

The Lumberjacks are led by their senior guard Shannon Bogues, who is averaging 17 points per game and 4.5 assists per game. Bogues recently scored 21 points against Alabama, and has emerged as one of the top players in Southland, and the clear top player on a truly dangerous SFA squad.

Stephen F. Austin has commonly fielded some of the top players in the league, and this season is no different, and Shannon Bogues is the top player in the Southland conference this season.

SWAC: Martaveous McKnight, Arkansas-Pine Bluff

Arkansas Pine Bluff is one of the worst teams in the country, but don’t let that fool you when it comes to the production of Martaveous McKnight.

The Golden Lions leader in virtually everything, McKnight has been putting up monster numbers all season long. The senior guard is averaging 23.4 points per game, as well as 5 rebounds and 3 assists per game.

McKnight’s team has pretty much no shot at making it to the NCAA tournament, which is unfortunate considering how well McKnight has played all season long. Unfortunately the top 64 players don’t make the tournament, and McKnight is all but likely to fall victim to that.
