Best Mid-Major Win of the Week – Western Kentucky Hilltoppers

I would be remiss not to mention the best mid-major performances of the week even though the holidays are sort of a dry period for college basketball.

Despite the lack of games, there were a handful of mid-major upsets of Power Five schools, including two wins over ranked opponents.

Western Kentucky took down No. 15 Wisconsin 83-76 off the strength of four double-figures scorers, while Princeton beat Arizona State on the road 67-66.

Santa Clara won in Washington State 79-71, Seattle won at Cal 82-73, Hartford won in overtime at Boston College 79-78 despite 44 from Ky Bowman, Liberty handed UCLA another embarrassing home loss at 73-58, Texas Southern got yet another big upset by taking down Texas A&M 88-73 on the road, and Florida Atlantic beat dreadful Illinois 73-71 in overtime.

And, perhaps most importantly, Monmouth finally got their first win of the season! They knocked off a strong Penn squad on the road 76-74 in overtime.

Coppin State, at 0-15, are the only winless crew left heading into the new year.
