Bubble and Bids by Conference

As I have said on countless occasions so far this season, it is still incredibly early to be talking about bracketology. Sure, resumes are starting to take shape and teams are solidifying their positions in the national rankings but there is still plenty of time for teams to move around. And that means both up and down, so be careful what you wish for as a fan. Conference play is only just beginning and while this means several opportunities for high-quality wins for many teams, it can also represent opportunities to drop several games in a row.

With these warnings and clarifications stated, though, here is what my current “bubble” looks like followed by a breakdown of the projected field by conference (with seeds in parenthesis).

Safer…not safe: Minnesota, Creighton, UCF, Iowa

Last Four In: Clemson, San Francisco, Texas, Butler

First Four Out: Utah State, Syracuse, Arizona, Washington

Next Four Out: Northwestern, Vanderbilt, Temple, Alabama

Bids by Conference (seeding in parenthesis)

Big Ten (10 bids): Michigan (1), Michigan State (2), Ohio State (4), Indiana (4), Nebraska (6), Wisconsin (6), Purdue (7), Maryland (9), Minnesota (10), and Iowa (11).

Big 12 (7 bids): Kansas (2), Texas Tech (3), Oklahoma (5), TCU (7), Iowa State (7), Kansas State (10), and Texas (11)

Big East (6 bids): Marquette (6), St. John’s (8), Seton Hall (8), Villanova (9), Creighton (10), and Butler (11)

That concludes this edition of my bracketology projected field of 68. I hope that your team was able to find the field but do not worry if they did not. There is still plenty of time to make a move. College basketball season is heating up and this bracket is just a teaser of what is to come.
