The “They’re No Longer Winless” Award – Coppin State Eagles

Shoutout to the final winless team in Division I for getting that monkey off their back with a 73-67 win over Savannah State.

Best Mid-Major Matchup – ETSU 81 Samford 72 (OT)

For the second week in a row, Samford loses in the mid-major game of the week. Poor Bulldogs. ESTU had three double-digit scorers off the bench to get a much-needed conference win.

The SoCon is spicy this year. Wofford, UNC-G, Furman, ETSU, Samford all look like teams that could win a game in the tournament. In a just world, the SoCon would be a two-bid league this year (as would the WCC and the MAC and the OVC and others). Alas, that will most likely not be the case because who doesn’t love tons of mediocre Power Five schools!

Next. Power Rankings. dark

Honorable mentions goes to Marshall’s 70-67 win over Old Dominion, Purdue Fort Wayne’s 1044-88 win over South Dakota State (23-8-8 from Jon Konchar!), North Texas’ 63-59 win vs Louisiana Tech, San Francisco’s 76-72 victory over Saint Mary’s, Ball States’ 79-64 road upset of Toledo, Loyola-Chicago with a 85-74 win over Nick Norton-less Drake, and Georgia State 73 Texas State 69.
