8. Texas Longhorns (10-6, 2-2 Conference Play)

Previous Ranking: No. 7

Two weeks in, and Texas is exactly who we thought they were. The most unpredictable team in the Big 12.

One week, the Longhorns look sharp, blowing out Kansas State by 20 on the road, and beating West Virginia by seven. The next week, Texas looks like a bubble NIT team, losing to both Oklahoma State and Texas Tech.

I just cannot figure out this Texas team. There is no clear number one option on offense, as Kerwin Roach just hasn’t been up to the task as the teams’ top scorer. The supporting cast isn’t much better, as Texas is yet to top 70 points in conference play.

Shaka Smart’s seat gets warmer and warmer by the day. Texas lost to Texas Tech at home for the first time in 23 years on Saturday, and while the Red Raiders are one of the nation’s top teams, the Longhorns blew a halftime lead, and were outscored by ten in the second half.

Texas should’ve escaped their first four games with a 3-1 record. Now, at 2-2, the Longhorns head  into their toughest stretch of the season, facing Kansas, Oklahoma, TCU, Georgia, Kansas, and Iowa State. Yikes.

The next three weeks will define the Longhorns season, as well as Shaka Smart’s job. Buckle up, Texas fans. It could be a long remainder of the month.
