Texas Longhorns

After a solid 2-0 start to Big 12 action, the Longhorns created some breathing room for themselves. And after one week, it’s completely gone.

The first loss came on the road at Oklahoma State, a team under .500 for the season who just lost a key contributor. While West Virginia is 0-4 in conference play, the Cowboys are still the least talented team in the Big 12 and considered a “bad loss” whether it was on the road or not.

The other loss this past week came to Texas Tech by six points. While the loss itself isn’t shameful, Texas was at home with a second-half lead against a top-10 ranked team. It was a missed opportunity for a team who at 10-6 (2-2), with losses already to Radford, Providence, and VCU in the non-conference, can’t afford many more slip-ups.

We’ll find out about this Longhorns team soon enough, with games against Kansas twice, Oklahoma, Iowa State, TCU and Georgia in the Big 12/SEC Challenge coming up this month. They may have to go 3-3 at least to still be on the right side of the bubble. Also, Texas fans must root for North Carolina to have a huge rest of the season, as they’re the best win to date.
