Gonzaga Bulldogs

One of the more highly anticipated games from this past weekend was the late WCC battle between Gonzaga and San Francisco. The game and the Dons themselves lived up to the hype, having a lead with under four minutes to go. But the Bulldogs survived the road test to remain on top of the conference.

Including giving up just 36 total points to Pacific on Thursday, Gonzaga has shown themselves to be on another level compared to the rest of the teams in the league. But going unbeaten will be a tough challenge, so winning at a historically difficult place to play at in War Memorial is good for the team to already check off their list. Adding to that winning at San Francisco represents a tier-1 victory, and the Bulldogs resume continues to grow.

Gonzaga’s all but assured a protected seed in the West region of the upcoming NCAA Tournament. However, this team wants to get that No. 1 seed. Including Nevada losing the Saturday prior, the results this week helped that case.

Duke, Gonzaga’s signature win, beat a pair of ACC teams on the road to remain No. 1 in the country and help out the Bulldogs. And the only Pac-12 teams who are unbeaten in conference play are Arizona and Washington, two programs that Gonzaga already vanquished in the non-conference.

The Bulldogs could very well not lose a game in the WCC and make this a moot point but they’ll need the teams they defeated earlier on to continue winning. That’s what happened last week, making it a good seven days overall for the top team out west.
