9. Kansas Jayhawks

Record: 14-2 (3-1 Big 12)

Last Week: No. 10

Following their road loss to Iowa State and the season-ending injury to Udoka Azubuike, many questioned just how successful Kansas would be over the course of the following two months. Well, if their last two performances are any indication, the Jayhawks will compete for the Big 12 title this season and they might still even be the favorite. During this past week, Kansas took down a highly-touted TCU team (77-68) and then went on the road to defeat Baylor (73-68).

Looking ahead to the rest of the season, Kansas will likely need to rely on its freshmen guards, Devon Dotson and Quentin Grimes, in order to continue playing at a high level. This does not mean, of course, that these guards need to emerge as star players but they need to increase their production. With Azubuike out, these guards will hopefully be able to take some of the scoring burden off of Dedric Lawson/Lagerald Vick‘s shoulders.

In the end, head coach Bill Self is one of the best in the business and I am not going to be the one to pick against KU in the Big 12. They might not be my highest-ranked team in the conference at this moment but they probably will be in two months.
