Looking forward…

Even though I have been optimistic throughout most of this piece, though, it is important to mention how the team is trending at this point in time. The Badgers might not be dipping much in computer rankings but the eye test shows a team that is visibly struggling at this point in time. Wisconsin has not come out of the gates extremely slowly as of late and they have looked disjointed in many crunch-time situations as well.

Now two months into the season, it is time to mention that while the Badgers have lost their last five games that have been decided by fewer than 10 points (4-1 prior to this stretch). They need to find a way to consistently close games in order to secure more wins as the year goes on.

The remainder of the Big Ten schedule for Wisconsin is an absolute gauntlet and there will be at least a few more games decided in crunch time. And when those tight games arrive, the Badgers have to run a play for a quality look from the most trustworthy player with the hot hand. Given Ethan Happ’s struggles at the free throw line, these player will likely be guards Brad Davison or D’Mitrik Trice.

In the end, there is no reason to panic as a Wisconsin basketball fan. This team is not that far removed from being a top-25 team in the country and this could just be a rough stretch. And even if the team continues to struggle in conference play, the expectation should still be reaching the NCAA Tournament with relative ease.
