8) Kyler Edwards is the future for Texas Tech

Speaking of quality freshman guards and other impact players in the Big 12, Texas Tech’s Kyler Edwards is one to watch down the stretch. Jarrett Culver gets all of the publicity for this Red Raiders team (and rightfully so) but Edwards is making an impact and has a promising future.

The 6-3 guard is a dynamic scorer with the athleticism that makes him a nightmare for opposing defenses. Though he’s only a role player, Edwards has eight games in which he has scored at least nine points. He’s also one of the team’s most efficient players and is their best three-point shooter.

Last year, Culver was the secondary option behind Keenan Evans and Zhaire Smith. He showed flashes of stardom but took a major step forward this year as Texas Tech became his team.

Culver is now a projected lottery pick and will almost assuredly leave school for the NBA Draft. When that happens, head coach Chris Beard has the perfect player waiting in the wings in Edwards.
