Michigan Basketball: 3 reasons why Wolverines are better than Michigan State
By Adam Childs
3. They have more experience
This may seem like a weird reason given that Michigan only has one senior on their roster. They have a freshman and three sophomores that play a lot of minutes, so how then do the Wolverines have more experience? Besides Brazdeikis, each guy that plays a majority of the minutes this year had a fairly big part in their tournament run last year. Simpson and Matthews have even been part of two straight Big Ten tournament runs.
Michigan State, on the other hand, has come up well short in the last two tournaments. They have not faced the adversity that the Wolverines have, and in turn, aren’t as battled tested. Yes, the Spartans are blowing teams out right now, but how will they respond when they are in a close game. Against Louisville their top player, Cassius Winston fouled out and left the Spartans shorthanded in overtime.
Michigan has had to fight through tough games and games when they do not shoot as well and have still come out on top. They have played in many more games that have been pressure packed than Michigan State has. Michigan has shown they can battle through that and at the end that can give them an edge over their opponent when the game is tight.
Michigan State may have higher rated recruits but Michigan has been through the war with each other and trust each other every single game. That experience and trust in each other is something that puts Michigan on top right now. That edge is what makes the Wolverines the better of the two teams right now.
Until they battle on the court, Michigan has proven more this year and because of these three reasons are the better team.
