4. Marquette Golden Eagles: SELL

The Golden Eagles are about as trendy as Hansel from Zoolander. They have dropped 100+ points twice already this season, and Markus Howard has dropped 40+ points three times (against Kansas State, Buffalo, and Creighton, no less). Having said that, I think the time to sell Marquette is immediately following tonight’s home game against DePaul.

The Golden Eagles rose all the way up to 12th in the most recent AP poll, and are slotted on the 4 seed line in the latest Bracket Matrix update. My primary worry with this team is that opposing defenses are going to start really throwing the entire kitchen sink at stopping Howard. When they figure out how to do that successfully, I’m not so certain that the Hauser brothers are going to be able to pick up the slack.

In terms of efficiency, Marquette is a very balanced team on both sides. However, they’re outside of the top 30 in both offensive and defensive efficiency. Add that to the fact that they still have to play Villanova twice, Butler twice, and at Seton Hall, and a regression to the mean seems to be in order.

Don’t be surprised if the Golden Eagles fall down a couple of seed lines by March 17th.
