Best Mid-Major Matchup – UNC Greensboro 75 ETSU 68
Pretty much every week from here on out is going to feature a number of key conference matchups. Let’s take a quick run through this week’s biggest games.
In a matchup of 16-win squads, the UNC G Spartans came out on top at ETSU thanks to a balanced attack of four double-figure scorers.
The top of the SoCon is still a war zone. The win moved UNC G into a sole spot in second place, behind Wofford and ahead of ETSU.
Wofford improved to a perfect 7-0 in the conference thanks to a 59-54 win at home vs Furman. The Paladins are now fifth in the SoCon after being ranked in the non-conference.
Nevada held on for a 72-71 win on the road vs a feisty Boise State crew. Jacksonville State is now tied with Murray State at 6-0 atop the OVC after a 91-80 overtime win against Belmont.
Radford has now won seven in a row and lead the Big South with a perfect 6-0 record after three conference wins this week. Hofstra pushed their winning streak to 14 by beating Charleston 86-72. They are a perfect 7-0 in the CAA.
Gonzaga took care of business against Loyola Marymount, winning 73-55 at home. Western Kentucky handed Marshall its first C-USA loss with a 68-59 win at home.
In a battle of the top two Patriot League teams, Lehigh came out on top 85-83 vs Bucknell. In another battle against the top two squads, this time in the MVC, Loyola-Chicago defeated Valpo 71-54.
Similarly in the Big Sky, Weber State took down Northern Colorado 78-64 to pull ahead in the conference standings. New Mexico State barely won 83-78 at Utah Valley, and San Francisco blew out BYU 82-63.
