By Ryan Kay
Michigan has kept their winning ways from last season
Michigan may have lost in the national championship game last season but they ended last year on a great note. The Wolverines have continued their winning ways with only one loss on the season and they went undefeated in non-conference play. Michigan currently has a record of 19-1 and 8-1 in Big Ten play.
Michigan has quality non-conference wins with a 27 point road victory against Villanova and an 84-67 victory against North Carolina. In Big Ten play the Wolverines has home wins against Purdue and Minnesota and series sweeps against Northwestern and Indiana. Michigan is ranked # 5 in the Associated Press Poll and ranked #6 in the Coaches Poll.
Even after losing Muhammad-Ali Abdur-Rahkman and Duncan Robinson to graduation and Mortiz Waganer to the NBA, the Wolverines have played well this season and should be ready to play their rivals come late February.
The long wait to the much anticipated matchup
It will be the teams 27th and 28th games respectively before they meet at Crisler Arena on February 24th just under a month away for their Sunday 3:45 matchup on the CBS national televised game. Both will be vying for their 15th regular season Big Ten Title. Fans for both teams and fans of college basketball will have to continue waiting to see these two Big Ten heavyweights play.
The ironic part is that they will have their rematch two weeks later in East Lansing on Michigan State’s Senior Day on March 9th. It appears that there is a good possibility that they will get the top two seeds in the Big Ten Tournament and meet again for a third time prior to the start of the NCAA Tournament.
This rivalry is heating up among both fan bases and college basketball fans around the nation are also looking forward to the game coming up is the Michigan State Spartans and the Michigan Wolverines.
