1. Kansas Jayhawks (17-5, 6-3 Conference Play)

Previous Ranking: No. 2

There is no other conference in College Basketball in which the top team can go on a 1-3 skid, and still rise back up to first place.

That’s just the Big 12.

Anyways, Kansas‘ number one ranking is more of a number one by default. Trust me, this is not one excellent Kansas team.

Their win on Saturday against Texas Tech was a relief for everyone, but there are still a load of problems in Lawrence. Kansas relies way too heavily on Dedric Lawson, and their two freshman guards have experienced some learning curves.

More importantly, any hope of Silvio De Souza returning is gone. The NCAA suspended De Souza until the 2020-2021 season (!!!) for his “involvement” in the booster scandal. All opinions aside, the De Souza decision is a crusher for Kansas.

However, Bill Self’s teams will work their magic. Kansas easily has a big run in them, and when everything is firing at once, this Kansas team is as good as anyone. That hasn’t been the case as of late, but when they put it all together, Kansas is dangerous.

dark. Next. National POY race

Can you believe all of this is after just one month in the Big 12. The next two months are going to be incredibly interesting to follow in the Big 12. Whether it be Kansas, Texas Tech, or another team, it is going to be an all-out battle as to who rises to the top of the Big 12 in 2019.
