Big 12 Basketball Power Rankings: Kansas, Baylor rise after TTU falls
6. Oklahoma Sooners (15-7, 3-6 Conference Play)
Oklahoma’s highs this season have been pretty high. Their lows, on the other end, have been low.
After blowing through their non-conference schedule, the Sooners have hit a speed bump in Conference play, struggling considerably one month in.
Saturday’s loss was easily the low point of the season for Oklahoma, dropping a game on the road against West Virginia by nine. The Sooners fought hard to get back into the game in the second half, but ultimately couldn’t pull it off, dropping their sixth conference game.
Things won’t be getting any easier for the Sooners as well. They’ll face Iowa State, Texas Tech, and Baylor in their next three games. Two of which are at home, and the Sooners will certainly need to capitalize and find their footing.
Part of finding that footing is the play of role players. Sophomore forward Brady Manek has began to heat it up, scoring 18 points against West Virginia. It can’t just be Christian James and four other guys all the time, but the play of certain others, and Manek in particular will make turning the season around a whole lot easier for Oklahoma.
After once being a potential top-15 team, Oklahoma is nearing the bottom of the Big 12. They’re safe for now, but they need to get something going here in the next week or so.
