Michigan State Basketball: Comparing 2015-16 Spartans to this year’s squad
By Ryan Kay
What this year’s Spartan team can learn from the 2015-2016 mistakes
One important thing this season’s team does not do is quit. They lost two games in overtime, one game against then, #1 Kansas, were down by 14 at the half and lost by only 5 points on a neutral court, and were down by more than 20 points in the first half at one point versus Purdue on the road and fought back in the 2nd half before falling by a final score of 73-63.
The 2015-2016 team during Big Ten play got beat by double digits twice by Iowa and this year’s Spartan team doesn’t seem to allow themselves to get blown out if they were to lose a Big Ten game here and there. However, time will tell and Winston, Ward, and company need to learn from that season’s team mistakes.
The reason why this year’s team will learn from the 2015-2016 team’s mistakes is that of Kenny Goins, Kyle Ahrens, and Matt McQuaid being on that team. All three know how it feels to lose a 1st round game in the NCAA Tournament and in season’s past they were unable to really do anything noteworthy about it, but now that they all play significant minutes they can.
The Spartans this season will get points, assists, and rebounds from Winston and Ward but they also will have a strong supporting cast that will help them make a run in the NCAA Tournament.
