Big 12 Basketball: Buy Or Sell Texas, Baylor, Oklahoma, and TCU

TCU Horned Frogs – Buy
The TCU Horned Frogs had high expectations coming into this season after they made the NCAA Tournament a year ago. The loss of Jaylen Fisher was big but they have stepped up and played good basketball which has them in the NCAA Tournament as eight seed at the moment.
The Horned Frogs have a 17-7 record including a 5-6 record in Big 12 play. Despite having a good overall record they don’t have many quality wins in non-conference which keeps them on the bubble for the moment.
Their best win outside of Big 12 play is a home win over Florida during the Big 12/SEC Challenge that took place in late January. A recent road win at Iowa St on February 9th has them in a really good spot to secure an NCAA Tournament berth
They have been inconsistent at times this season which has them in a spot where they need to play their way into the field still. A couple of more wins the rest of the season should get them in. If they can get an 8-10 conference record to get to 20 wins that should be more than enough to get in though they certainly would like a better seed than just sneaking into the field.
The emergence of freshman guard Kendric Davis as a second point guard has been huge for this team. He is averaging just 6.5 points per game but his play in recent Big 12 games has been huge including his 22 points in TCU’s road win at Iowa St. Freshman big man Kevin Samuel has established himself as the starting center for all 24 games as he has averaged 7.3 points and 7.2 rebounds per game.
The other three guys who have started every game for this team are Desmond Bane, Alex Robinson, and JD Miller. Bane has been the team’s leading scorer as he is averaging 15.2 points to go along with 5.4 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game.
Robinson is the starting point guard for this team and he does a great job orchestrating the offense. On the season he is averaging 12.9 points and 7.3 assists per game. Miller is a senior forward who has been a key contributor on this year’s team as he averages 10.4 points and 6.5 rebounds per game.
The final spot of the starting lineup has alternated between three players who have each started three games; with Jaylen Fisher, RJ Nembhard, and Kouat Noi. Noi has been the guy who has started recently and it seems as if he will remain in that spot the rest of the season. He is averaging 14.8 points and 6.6 rebounds per game as he is the team’s biggest three-point shooting threat as he makes 2.5 of them per game.
They need to finish the year strong to be sure but they have some home games coming up that they can use to bolster their resume against Oklahoma, Iowa State, Texas Tech, and Texas. If they’re able to win even three of those games then they’re likely a lock for the NCAA Tournament. So expect the Horned Frogs to be dancing in March without having to worry about getting into the 68 team field on Selection Sunday.
