SoCon Basketball is in the spotlight this weekend with the two best teams playing. Who has the edge with Wofford taking on UNC-Greensboro?

With several prominent conferences having down years such as the Pac-12, Mountain West and Atlantic 10, it’s created more opportunities for lesser known mid-major league to possibly get multiple bids. One, in particular, has been SoCon Basketball, one of the deeper mid-major leagues this season.

There are four teams that have 10+ conference wins on the season (East Tennessee State, Wofford, UNC-Greensboro, and Furman) but it’s the Terriers who stands alone on top with a 14-0 (22-4 overall) record. Wofford has one of the best offenses in the country and is coming off a 95-84 victory over VMI. Everyone had a hand in the win, with all 10 players who participated chipping in with at least five points.

Wofford is riding high but takes on a tough foe in the 2nd place team in the SoCon UNC-Greensboro 22-4 (12-2). The Spartans were on a roll, winning 15 of the team’s last 16 games. But they may have been looking ahead of this game, losing this Thursday to Furman by 10 points on the road. They shot 36% from the field in the game and turned the ball over 17 times.

These two teams have faced off earlier in the season, with Wofford destroying Greensboro at their place, 72-43. Nothing went right for the Spartans, making just 1/3 of their total shots and scoring a season-low 16 points in the first half. So expect a determined Spartans team this Saturday when they venture across the state to cut the deficit in the standings in half.

Normally, a SoCon game between the two best teams would be a great game to observe. But because of how good these teams have been, there are Bracketology consequences for this game for both teams. Here’s a look at each team when it comes to a potential at-large bid.
