Southern Conference

Lead-pipe lock: None.

Firmly in the field: Wofford.

Some perspiration: None.

Double the deodorant: UNC Greensboro, Furman.

Wofford Terriers (23-4, 15-0 SC)

Wofford is in great shape. As many of you know, I have been driving the Wofford bandwagon for some time now and they just continue to make me look good for that. The Terriers have won 14 consecutive games and it just seems as though there is nobody that can stop them in SoCon play. With that said, though, they finish conference play with three road games. If they just win one of those games (two to be safe), I think they will jump to lock status. This has been a special season and the Terriers deserve to be rewarded. Current Projected Seed: No. 8 and I wish I could believe the committee would make them higher.

UNC Greensboro Spartans (23-5, 12-3 SC)

Q1: 1-5 | Q2: 1-0 | Q3: 5-0 | Q4: 14-0

In order for UNC-Greensboro to snag an at-large bid, they need to win out in the regular season and then fall in the SoCon Tournament final. I know that seems harsh for a team that isn’t that far from the cutline right now but it is the truth. They missed their two big road opportunities against Furman and Wofford a week ago and they will need to mount a serious run to make the dance as an at-large. Current Projected Seed: OUT.

Furman Paladins (22-5, 11-4 SC)

NET: 44 | KPI: 76 | SOR: 46 | BPI: 55 | KP: 53 | Sag: 79

Q1: 1-4 | Q2: 3-0 | Q3: 1-1 | Q4: 14-0

Furman is in a bit better shape than UNCG at this point in time. Given that, though, they likely also need to win out the regular season and then proceed to make the SoCon Tournament final. The good news for the Paladins, though, is that they still have a home opportunity against Wofford left that could seriously bolster their resume. That win might put them right at the cutline heading into the conference tournament, where their only “acceptable” losses would be to another top-4 team (and maybe only Wofford). Current Projected Seed: OUT (First Four Out).
