Baylor Bears

Baylor, having dropped three of its last four games, was in a bit of a precarious place heading into this past week. This, though, had nothing to do with their performances in conference play as the team’s bracketology standing was only brought down by two Q4 losses. During this past week, the Bears then showed bracketologists everywhere why there was no reason to worry. First, they went on the road and recorded a big-time win over Iowa State. They then followed that up with a home victory over West Virginia, even though it was more difficult than it needed to be.

Head coach Scott Drew has done a phenomenal job with his team this year and there is very little reason to believe that they will not be a threat in March. When completely healthy and on their game, the Bears have proven that they belong in the top 30 or so teams in America. They will find a way to win at least one game in the Big Dance.

Florida Gators

Florida is the most underrated “hot” team in the country right now. I know it is easy to look past the Gators due to their relatively poor record but they have caught fire as of late. After believing in UF as a legit really good team in the preseason this year, it feels good to finally see the team seemingly clicking on almost all cylinders. During this past week alone, Florida snagged a road win over LSU and then returned home to take care of Missouri (in a game that was more difficult than it should have been).

This moved the Gators’ winning streak up to four games as they now stand at 16-11 (8-6 SEC). Thanks to their recent play, Florida is no longer sitting squarely on the bubble but relatively firmly on the right side of the cutline. And with a couple of “easy” games coming up in their closing schedule, it seems as though head coach Mike White and Co. will be dancing. Hard to say many saw that coming when they were only one game over .500 just two weeks ago.
