Arizona State Basketball: Keys for must-win Pac-12 game over Oregon
3. Don’t turn the ball over
The Sun Devils have to be careful in this game with Oregon when it comes to turning the ball over. Oregon is pretty good at taking the ball away with over seven steals per game, that number is 2nd among conference teams and 76th best in the sport. Arizona State, on the other hand, is only ahead of UCLA and Stanford, committing 13.8 per game and the Ducks are third among conference teams, forcing over 13 per game. Against conference opponents, Oregon is third in the conference forcing 14.4 per game and the Sun Devils have turned it over 14 times per game.
Junior Payton Pritchard leads the team in steals, averaging 1.6 per game and 43 thefts on the season and two other guards, senior Ehab Amin and Freshman Will Richardson average over a steal per game, the trio combine to come up with 4.3 steals per game. Arizona State’s turnover issues are headlined by three players who turn the ball over at least twice per game. Cheatham and Dort both commit 3.1 per game and Remy Martin turns the ball over twice per contest.
Arizona State will need to protect the ball against Oregon so they don’t give the Ducks easy offensive chances if they want to come away with a road win.
