Southern Conference

Lead-pipe lock: Wofford.

Firmly in the field:

Some perspiration: None.

Double the deodorant: UNC Greensboro, Furman.

UNC Greensboro Spartans (25-5, 14-3 SC)

NET: 61 | KPI: 58 | SOR: 34 | BPI: 84 | KP: 103 | Sag: 97

Q1: 1-5 | Q2: 2-0 | Q3: 3-0 | Q4: 17-0

I do not think UNC-Greensboro has much of a chance, if any, of securing an at-large bid this season. With that said, though, the Spartans have received some attention from other bracketologists and therefore I will include them in this piece. In breaking down their resume, I think it will be difficult for UNCG to land an at-large bid for two reasons. First, they hold just a 6-5 record in all Q1/2/3 games and that just isn’t going to cut it when power conference bubble teams have that many wins in just Q1/2. Additionally, their quality metrics are really, really low for a bubble team. It is hard to imagine the committee including a team with 80+ quality metrics even if the Spartans do go on a run. If UNCG wants an at-large bid, they need to reach the SoCon final and get some help. Current Bracketology Status: OUT.

Furman Paladins (23-6, 12-5 SC)

NET: 46 | KPI: 76 | SOR: 50 | BPI: 59 | KP: 55 | Sag: 76

Q1: 1-5 | Q2: 3-0 | Q3: 2-0 | Q4: 14-1

Furman responded well from their loss to Wofford last weekend but handling their business in a road win over Samford. With this said, though, the Paladins still sit on the wrong side of the cutline at this moment without many opportunities for high-quality wins remaining. Obviously, the clearest path to a bid is by winning the SoCon Tournament. If that does not occur, Furman will have to hope that other bubble teams fall and making the SoCon final will suffice. Current Bracketology Status: OUT.
