Saint Mary’s Gaels (20-10, 11-4 WCC)

Saint Mary’s best win on the season is a road victory over New Mexico State in the opening week of the season. They already have 10 losses and are from a non-power conference. They lost their biggest game of the season (at Gonzaga) by 48 points. And yet…despite all of this…Saint Mary’s might be on the right side of the cutline at the moment. Thanks to dominating seemingly every weak opponent that they have played, the Gaels have soared up every metric that puts a heavy weight on efficiency measures. They do not own a single win over a KenPom top-50 team but yet here we are. The biggest game of the Saint Mary’s season is approaching and their at-large hopes rely on it. Can the Gaels defend their home court against Gonzaga? (My take: Unlikely.) Current Bracketology Status: First Four Out.

San Francisco Dons (21-6, 9-4 WCC)

I think that it is about time to cook San Francisco’s resume. The at-large hopes that were definitely alive a week ago have plummeted following back-to-back losses to Santa Clara and San Diego. Because of this, I think the Dons’ odds of reaching the NCAA Tournament as an at-large team are slim to none. That even accounts for the possibility of reaching the WCC final. The Dons are now in fourth place in the West Coast and that just won’t cut it (even though conference record does not matter in selection/seeding). Current Bracketology Status: OUT.
