Atlantic 10 Conference

Lead-pipe lock: None.

Firmly in the field: None.

Some perspiration: VCU.

Double the deodorant: Davidson, Dayton.

VCU Rams (22-6, 13-2 A10)

Q1: 2-2 | Q2: 4-2 | Q3: 7-2 | Q4: 9-0

VCU is pretty safely in the field at this time but they should also still be sweating a little bit. This is due to the idea that the Atlantic 10 is full of potential bubble-bursters and one loss could put the Rams right back on the edge of the cutline. For the time being, though, I think that the Rams are in pretty good position and should move into the “firmly in the field” section as long as they win out the rest of the regular season. And given the way that the team has played over the past month, they should be able to do that with relative ease. This is a fun team to watch if you like defense. Current Bracketology Status: No. 10 seed.

Davidson Wildcats (20-8, 11-4 A10)

NET: 75 | KPI: 68 | SOR: 63 | BPI: 80 | KP: 84 | Sag: 85

Q1: 0-2 | Q2: 5-2 | Q3: 5-4 | Q4: 9-0

After dropping a road game to La Salle during this past week, Davidson is now in a really tough spot to make the NCAA Tournament as an at-large team. The Wildcats just simply don’t have the quality wins nor the efficiency metrics needed to be that close to the field at the moment and their only real shot at an at-large comes by making the Atlantic 10 Tournament final. And if that happens, head coach Bob McKillop and Co. would just be better off winning and snagging the automatic bid to be safe. Current Bracketology Status: OUT.

Dayton Flyers (19-9, 11-4 A10)

NET: 66 | KPI: 67 | SOR: 62 | BPI: 54 | KP: 59 | Sag: 65

Q1: 1-5 | Q2: 2-3 | Q3: 5-1 | Q4: 11-0

Dayton, in my opinion, is a better position that Davidson but it is also quite precarious. The Flyers have won three consecutive games to remain firmly in the at-large conversation but they do not have any remaining opportunities to really make an upward move. Each of their last three games comes against a team ranked outside of the KenPom top-150 and therefore they will need to go 3-0 in order to remain on the fringe. Then, a deep run in the Atlantic 10 Tournament would keep them around and possibly move them in thanks to a strong W-L record. They would likely need a win over Davidson or VCU along the way in order to make the move into the field, though. Current Bracketology Status: Next Four Out.
