Pacific-12 Conference

Lead-pipe lock: None.

Firmly in the field: None.

Some perspiration: Washington.

Double the deodorant: Arizona State.

Washington Huskies (22-6, 13-2 P12)

NET: 32 | KPI: 29 | SOR: 30 | BPI: 42 | KP: 40 | Sag: 44

Q1: 1-4 | Q2: 5-1 | Q3: 10-0 | Q4: 6-1

Why Washington? WHY? I was 100% ready to slap the “lead-pipe lock” tag on the Huskies heading into this bubble watch and then they just had to ruin my plan by dropping a road game to Cal. In some seasons, this would be just fine but not this time around. Cal is arguably the worst power conference team we have seen in some time and the Huskies also have a weak resume outside of their great W-L record. It is now March and they do not own a single win over a team projected to be in the NCAA Tournament. That is a major problem and not one that can be fixed as they are the main at-large candidate from the Pac-12. Another loss or two and Washington will be in trouble. Current Bracketology Status: No. 10 seed.

Arizona State Sun Devils (19-8, 10-5 P12)

NET: 68 | KPI: 39 | SOR: 60 | BPI: 66 | KP: 66 | Sag: 57

Q1: 3-2 | Q2: 5-3 | Q3: 4-2 | Q4: 7-2

Arizona State has a very tricky resume. They have a strong collection of wins at the top with an 8-5 record in Q1/2 but then also have four pretty ugly losses. Also, their metric rankings do not help them out much as only one system (KPI) has the Sun Devils in the top-55. Due to their top-level wins, this team belongs firmly in consideration for an at-large bid but it will be very interesting to see how the committee approaches their bad losses. This, though, might not even be necessary as they could easily be underdogs in both of their remaining two games (at Oregon State, at Arizona). They might need to win both to secure a spot. Current Bracketology Status: First Four Out.
